NAS + SAN = Best Storage Alternative
Post by Alison Diana (thank you)
According to a recent 21st Century IT Flash Poll, many organizations are using a one-two combination of network-attached storage and storage area networks.
That does makes sense. Even though they are sometimes pitted against each other, the technologies are complementary. After all, NAS is designed to provide data access at the file level, and SANs are designed for high-volume data transfers, both of which typically occur at most organizations’ datacenters. Both use open, industry-standard protocols — SANs use Fibre Channel or iSCSI, while NAS use TCP/IP.
