This manual explains How To Install FTP Server FileZilla on Virtual Private Server.
We choose FileZilla Server because it's free, but similar steps will apply to any FTP Server of your choice.
1. Login to Remote Desktop of your VPS with the Login details provided by ASPnix
2. On your VPS
a. open your internet browser and navigate to:
FileZilla - Client Download (http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client)
b. download latest FileZilla file - version for Windows
c. install FileZilla Server with all default settings
3. Open FileZilla Server Interface
4. Click Edit and choose Users
a. Click Add and Enter any user name that you will use
b. Create Password for your user
5. Click Shared Folders
a. Click Add and find the path where you want your FTP Server to login to. Usually it is C:\intetpub\wwwroot
b. Under Files check Write, Delete and Append
c. Click OK to Save
6. So that you were able to connect from your home/office computer, you need to add exception to Windows Firewall
a. In Windows Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall
b. Click Add Program and Add the following: C:\Program Files\FileZilla Server\FileZilla server.exe
c. Click OK to Save
7. Login to your VPS account in Control Panel at https://cp.aspnix.com (https://cp.aspnix.com/)
a. Click Domains
b. If you haven't Added Domain yet, click Add and enter your Domain, then click on it.
c. Click DNS Zone Editor
d. Click Add to add new record
e. Enter "ftp" into Record Name and youripaddress for VPS into Record Data
f. Click Add to Save
You have now Installed FileZilla FTP Server on your VPS, Added Exception to Firewall and Created a DNSRecord so you could connect via ftp.yourdomain.com and not just your IP address.
