Why would you want to move from Kloxo to cPanel hosting? Well, if you currently have our Semi-Managed VPS package and are using the Kloxo control panel, you may want to try our Managed VPS hosting which comes with the cPanel control panel by default. There is no automated way to transfer from a Kloxo to a cPanel account, but the steps below should provide you with guidance as you transfer your account.

Step 1 - Backup your database(s)

1. Login to your Kloxo Control Panel (https://vpscp.a2hosting.com:8887/login/ and then select the Kloxo tab at the top right, then Home)
2. Go down to the "Resources" section and click on "Phpmyadmin". A new window will open. (Note: You may be required to allow pop-ups in your browser)
3. On the right hand side, select the database you want to make a backup of.
4. In the tab bar at the top select "Export". (Note: The default dump settings will be adequate for most sites)
5. Scroll down and select the check box "Save as file" and then select the "gzipped" compression option.
6. Click go and wait for the "Save file" dialog to appear (Note: This can take a minute or two depending on the size of your database)
7. Save the file to a location on your local computer (i.e. c:\MyWebsites\). Do not change the file name unless you know what you're doing, but note it for later on.
8. Repeat from step 3 for each database for which you need a backup.

Step 2 - Back up your Website

1. Go back to the Kloxo Control Panel Window.
2. Scroll to the "Resources" section.
3. Click on "File Manager".
4. Select the directory you want to make a backup of. (Note: In Kloxo the website files and located in the directory with the same name of your domain) (i.e. mydomain.com)
5. In the menu bar select "Zip".
6. After a few minutes the screen wil refresh and you will see a new file beginning with "NewArchive" with todays date and the "zip" extension.
7. Click on download icon Attachment 1 and download the zip file to the same location where you saved your database backup. (i.e. c:\MyWebsites\). Do not change the file name unless you know what you're doing, but note it for later on.

Step 3 - Import your database in cPanel

1. Open a new browser window and go to the A2Hosting customer portal (https://my.a2hosting.com), Login and then click on "My Products & Services" in the main menu
2. Click on "View Details" next to the managed VPS hosting account you want to import your Kloxo site to, and then scroll down and click on 'Login to cPanel'
3. Enter your cPanel login details as provided in your welcome email.
4. Scroll down to the section marked "Databases" and select "MySql Database Wizard"
5. At New Database name, enter the name of the database you made a backup of earlier. (i.e.: mydatabase). Click on "Next Step"
6. Enter the same Username and Password you had setup for your Kloxo database (Note: many dynamic (php) websites such as Wordpress, Joomla, etc., have a configuration file (config.php, configuration.php, database.php) where the database settings are stored. Set your new database up using the same settings). Click on "Next Step"
7. Select the "ALL PRIVILEGES" check box and click "Next Step".
8. Click on "Return Home" to return to the cPanel Home page.
9. Scroll down to the section marked "Databases" and select "phpMyAdmin". A new Window will open.
10. On the left side of the browser window select the database you just added.
11. In the tab bar above select "Import"
12. In the "File to import section" click on "Browse..." and select the database file you saved earlier from Kloxo (Note: the file should have the "gz" extension).
13. Click on "Go" (Note: Be patient. Sometimes the import will take a couple of minutes depending on your database size)
14. Repeat from step 4 for each database you wish to import.

Step 4 - Upload your Website

1. In cPanel Home scroll to the "Files" section and click on "File Manager" (Note: If asked which location you would like to open select "Web Root (public_html/www)")
2. In the menu bar select "Upload". A new window will open.
3. Select the first "Browse..." button and then select the file you downloaded earlier from Kloxo starting with "NewArchive". The upload will start immediatley. Wait for it to complete and then click the link starting with "Back to /home...". You will then be returned to the main file manager window where you will see the file you just uploaded.
4. Select the file beginning with "NewArchive" and the select "Extract" from the menu bar. In the dialog pop-up click "Extract File(s)". Click "Close" on the "Extraction Results" window.
5. You will now see a new folder named exactly like the one you made a backup of on Kloxo. We now need to move the files inside the web root - otherwise your website will not work properly.
6. Double click on the folder to open in the file view and then click on "Select All" (Note: You might want to exclude some directories that already exist in your web root like the "cgi-bin" directory. While holding the "Ctrl" on your keyboard and clicking on the file or directory with your mouse you can un-select items)
7. At this point the cPanel File Manager works just like Windows Explorer. Hold your mouse down over the top item in the selected list and drag everything over to your "www" directory on the left hand side of the screen.
8. Now click on "Up one level" and delete the archive and the old Kloxo directory by selecting each item with your mouse and then clicking on "Delete" and then "Delete File(s)" in the dialog pop-up.

One last step and you're done. cPanel manages databases differently by adding your account username in front of the database name. Use the file manager to edit your configuration file - if applicable - by selected the file with your mouse and then click on "Code Editor". (Note: you may be asked to select the encoding. click on "Disable Encoding Check" to continue). Make the adjustments to the database name, click on "Save Changes" and you're Done!

If everything went well you should be able to browse your website either using your domain name or - if DNS propagation is not yet complete - via the temporary URL provided to you in your A2 Hosting welcome email (eg: http://IPAddress/~username).
